Every case does not require the use of elastics.  If it is indicated in your treatment plan, consistent  and regular use will be critical to the success of your treatment.  Elastics create a small but continuous amount of pressure on the teeth and jaws to move them into a more desirable position.

 Class  3 Elastics

Class 3 elastics are worn to correct an under bite.

Wear the elastics all of the time except when eating or brushing your teeth.  Many patients can even eat with the elastics in place.  If you wear your elastics consistently both day and night, you will help complete your treatment in the shortest time possible.  Replace your elastics with new ones at least twice a day.
Poor or inconsistent wear of the elastics will prolong your  treatment in braces because your teeth will never move into proper position.  If you fail to wear your elastics as directed, you can make our treatment goals impossible to achieve.  amobstac.wmf (1910 bytes)
If you have any problems wearing the elastics, call us so that you won't lose any of your progress.   Minor discomfort is expected at first.  The more often you wear your elastics the quicker you will become adjusted to them.  What ever you do it is important to avoid intermittent or off and on wear.   Off and on wear will also contribute to more discomfort.   ammotiva.wmf (2870 bytes)
Wear your elastics as we have directed, and you will finish treatment on time.

If you should ever run out of elastics before your next office visit, please call us we will be glad to put some in the mail for you.
