Over Jet

This is an example of excessive over jet also called a class II division I Malocclusion. This type of bite is characterized by the upper jaw "bucking" out over the lower jaw. This condition can be present itself as either maxillary (Maxi-Larry) pro-gnathism (proog-nath-ism) or the upper jaw is protruded out too far over lower. Or it can present itself as mandibular (Man-dib-u-lar) retro-gnathism (Retro-nath-ism) or when the lower jaw has not grown out far enough to meet the upper jaw. In order to acheive an ideal treatment result the orthodontist must correctly diagnosis the the source of the problem. If this type of bite is left untreated, permanent teeth may have to be removed, or worst surgical intervention may be needed to achieve an ideal treatment result.
Ideal Bite

This is the treatment result that we would like to achieve following a phase I orthodontic treatment plan. Please note that in some case cases all of the permanent teeth may not be present following this phase of treatment. Orthodontic appliances such as braces are often need to achieve this result.
